The Queen's Award

I cannot adequately describe to you my feelings of elation, humility and pride in our team when, well after office hours on a dark Friday evening in March this year, I received an email from The Queen’s Awards Office with the following opening paragraph:

"I am delighted to inform you that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that your company should receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category 2018."

At that very moment, I was about to leave the house to present awards to young athletes at the local athletic club of which I am President, so other than having a quick floss dance in the kitchen (not a pretty sight!) I had absolutely no time to let the news sink in – and there was no one else I could tell as I was sworn to absolute secrecy until the public announcement! So, it is a great pleasure that today we are able to announce that The Safeguarding Company have been honoured with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2018, for MyConcern® our ground-breaking safeguarding software.

About The Queen’s Awards

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the UK. The awards celebrate the success of exciting and innovative businesses which are leading the way with pioneering products or services, delivering impressive social mobility programmes or showing their commitment to excellent sustainable development practices. The award is unarguably the most sought after and distinguished accolade that any organisation can receive and we are profoundly honoured to have been recognised in this way. This is not an award for any one individual, it recognises the innovation that our whole team has brought to safeguarding and child protection and for this innovation to be celebrated in this very public way is both deeply humbling and extremely gratifying.

This award is also a recognition of the work done by safeguarding leads and other staff in a huge range of organisations who are involved – every single day – in protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults. We truly recognise the pressures that they face, and we hugely value the trust that they put in us and in MyConcern.

Over recent decades the range of safeguarding risks being encountered by children and young adults has grown exponentially and includes incredibly difficult issues such as child sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation, radicalisation and online bullying. There has also been a significant increase in the number of young people experiencing complex mental health issues, with self-harm a common problem. This creates an enormous responsibility for schools, colleges and many other organisations in managing what can be extremely challenging issues and for us to be able to support them in meeting these challenges is a privilege.

What Next?

Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, will be presenting the award at One Team Logic’s offices in due course. Myself and Darryl Morton (another of the founding directors of The Safeguarding Company) will be attending an official reception for award winners being held by HRH The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace in June 2018.

Alun Cairns MP, Secretary of State for Wales, will also be visiting the Welsh branch of One Team Logic to congratulate our staff on receiving the award.

Being honoured The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise Innovation will further enable The Safeguarding Company to impact on both individuals and communities directly.
