Alfreton Nursery School

Author: Katie Cresswell, School Business Manager

The Challenge

Alfreton Nursery School is maintained by Derbyshire County Council. It caters for 104 pupils in an area of high deprivation. There are a significant number of children who are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium, and the proportion of children with disabilities and SEN is above average for the area.

Prior to adopting MyConcern, Alfreton Nursery School used a paper-based safeguarding system where they kept individual records of any safeguarding and child protection concerns. They found the process of logging, filing and keeping up to date with these paper records was laborious. Furthermore, information couldn’t be easily shared with other schools or trusted professionals.

The Solution - MyConcern

MyConcern was recommended to Alfreton by another school. Following a demonstration of the system they decided that MyConcern would be able to support and improve their safeguarding systems. They hoped that using MyConcern would save them valuable time, ensure security of all information, and enable them to easily share information across the safeguarding team, as well as with other trusted partners (e.g. social services).

Implementing MyConcern

Alfreton have found MyConcern easier to use and more efficient than their previous system. They encouraged other schools in their cluster to adopt MyConcern, and as a result the group of schools has benefitted from information being easily transferrable (e.g. for when students move up to the next level of their education).

Alfreton would like to see all schools using this system, so that records can be easily transferred by feeder schools and no information becomes lost or forgotten.
