Aston Villa Football Club
Author: Andy Bowly, Head of Safeguarding
Aston Villa Football Club has a proud heritage, including being a founding club of the Football League in 1888 and one of only five English clubs to win club football's most prestigious trophy - the European Cup.

Safeguarding Compliance
As a member of the Premier League, Aston Villa Football Club and its Foundation must comply with the Premier League’s safeguarding rules and requirements that govern both Premier League club and club community foundation activities, as well as being subject to regular independent scrutiny and auditing.
To fulfil these responsibilities, Aston Villa Football Club and its Foundation have developed and put in place safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, statutory guidance, governing body regulation and current best practice.

The Solution - MyConcern
Aston Villa Football Club now uses MyConcern to support both the Club and Foundation in meeting their respective safeguarding compliance requirements. For the Club and Foundation, the key imperative is to be able to record and consistently manage all safeguarding and welfare issues centrally and electronically. The Club’s safeguarding team is confident that MyConcern helps them to meet these objectives.

The Results and Key Benefits
MyConcern gives the Club’s safeguarding team oversight of all safeguarding cases within the Club and the Foundation, which allows the safeguarding team to easily identify dates, issues, trends and report accurately to the Club’s Senior Management Team, Directors and the Foundation Board. MyConcern provides the safeguarding team with details that enable them to liaise with extended partners within the community or a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), as necessary and appropriate.
The Club has also recently started to use Sentry, The Safeguarding Company’s solution to ensure a safer recruitment process. With Sentry, the Club’s safeguarding team can run training sessions for any new employee’s and provide automatic links to MyConcern.
The Club’s safeguarding team is confident that by using MyConcern, it is able to record incidents both on and off the pitch and now has a centralised way of monitoring to help keep children and adults at risk that use and participate in the Club and its Foundations facilities and activities, safe.
