Church in Wales

Author: Wendy Lemon, Safeguarding Manager

The Church in Wales is a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion. It was disestablished in 1914, taking effect in 1920. There are 6 Diocese throughout Wales and in 2018, the Church’s electoral roll showed more than 42,000 worshippers in the Church in Wales, which equates to 1.4 percent of the Welsh population.

The Challenge

The key objectives for the Church in Wales (CinW) were to have a central safeguarding data base of all CinW safeguarding concerns. This is so they could ensure safeguarding staff could access information about and report on all safeguarding activity and casework, both current and historic, to facilitate management and supervision.

Being able to create data reports on safeguarding activity and having a central recording system of concerns across time and area were very important.

The Solution - MyConcern

The Church in Wales became aware of The Safeguarding Company when a team member, who had used My Concern in an education setting, advocated for its use.

It was decided to implement MyConcern, a simple, safe and secure solution for recording and managing safeguarding concerns.

MyConcern met the CinW’s objectives by bringing safeguarding together to be centrally managed, monitored and easily accessible online. That meant the whole team knew what was going on and any one time.

The Outcome

“Being able to accurately record and keep all safeguarding concerns in one place, provides us with oversight of all records, to identify and monitor issues and ensure matters are dealt with and reviewed in a timely manner,” said Wendy Lemon, Safeguarding Manager.

The CinW also appreciate the support by The Safeguarding Company’s Customer Service and Support departments. “The initial response to a query via email is swift and will include a solution if one is known,” commented Wendy Lemon.
