Northampton Primary Academy Trust

Author: Julia Kedwards, Chief Executive Officer

The Challenge

The Northampton Primary Academy Trust Partnership (NPAT) is a collaboration of seven primary schools with responsibility for approximately 2700 children across Northampton town.

This presents difficulties in improving reporting and communication to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding across our schools with consistency and rigorous processes.

The Partnership is built on the principle of synergy; that a collaboration of vibrant and successful schools ensures that we can achieve collectively what a single school couldn’t achieve alone. NPAT improves our schools using collaboration and innovation through partnership working that brings together children, parents, teachers and school leaders.

The Solution - MyConcern

Across NPAT schools we have children representing over 50 different countries and our school communities are extraordinarily diverse, both culturally and socially.

Three of our schools serve communities with significant deprivation challenges and all of our schools hold safeguarding of children as their top priority.

All NPAT schools hold the Inclusion Quality Mark and pride ourselves on our exemplary pastoral provision. Teams of Family Support Workers work and plan together to ensure that our safeguarding provision is high-tech, innovative and rigorous. This rigorous approach led us to look for ways to improve reporting and communication, which in turn led us to MyConcern.

Implementing MyConcern

The process for implementing MyConcern was very straightforward and efficient.
As soon as we had placed our order we were contacted by the technical support team to achieve the integration between MyConcern and each school’s Management Information System.

The training that our schools received was first class and gave us the opportunity to really think through the additional opportunities that MyConcern would provide to enhance our safeguarding arrangements. Everyone that we have been in contact with at MyConcern has been friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient.

The Outcomes

MyConcern has offered NPAT a rigorous, up-to-date, online web-based solution to enable a consistent approach to be adopted across the Trust. Relevant staff now have full access to the safeguarding information they need wherever they are – whether in school or off-site – and the consistency of approach has meant that the Trust can be assured that record-keeping and monitoring of safeguarding concerns are fully compliant.

The adoption of this quick and efficient system means that less time is spent by school leaders recording, reporting and following-up safeguarding concerns, releasing valuable time to be spent concentrating on learning and teaching.

  • Timely and consistent recording of safeguarding concerns across the Trust.
  • Enhanced communication within and between schools and the Trust.
  • Reduced bureaucracy.
  • Time freed up for teaching and learning.
  • Enhanced oversight of safeguarding concerns.
  • Assured compliance with statutory guidance and Trust policies.
