Safeguarding in Sports Education: Protecting Young Talent

Taking a deeper dive into safeguarding in sports. Safe Sports Consultant, Mathilde Grenet will discuss the importance of protecting young athletes and how good safeguarding plays a major role in unlocking potential.

Our Head of Safeguarding Services, Natasha Lawrence will be joined by Mathilde Grenet, former NCAA Tennis Player and Safe Sports Consultant whose passion it is to work with international sports organisations to improve their safeguarding processes. Mathilde has a sustained focus on safeguarding in sports and believes that by informing, educating institutions that nurture and inspire talent, they can also improve outcomes for young athletes.

They will discuss the problems facing Sports National Governing Bodies in creating and maintaining a positive and safe training environments where talent can be nurtured. Mathilde will share her experiences of being a young athlete and the pressures put upon her, and her opinion of what sports teachers, coaches or clubs can do to better protect athletes from risk of harm, abuse or exploitation and how to positively promote their well-being.

There will also be the opportunity to ask questions to Mathilde and Natasha.

Mathilde Grenet is originally from Paris (France) and is now based in Lausanne (Switzerland). She is a former NCAA tennis player and founder of the safeguarding consulting firm EN GARDE whose mission is to work with sporting organizations to make their ecosystems safer.

Child Safeguarding in Sport is a topic which resonates very profoundly with her as she is a survivor of sexual abuse having been abused by her tennis coach in her youth.

Mathilde Grenet is also a member of the "Pool of International Experts on Safe Sport” of the Council of Europe.
