What is Safeguarding?

When we 'safeguard' students, we take care of them, protect them from harm, address their vulnerabilities and proactively manage their non-academic needs.

We deliberately support student engagement by mitigating those factors that keep children distracted from their learning. As a safeguarding company, we provide the training and software tools needed to do this for each and every student.

How can you manage students' non-academic needs?

Teachers and administrators are both professionally and legally obligated to report abuse when they see it. But this isn’t safeguarding as it only covers the most egregious of concerns. What about bullying, racism, sexism, self-harm, injury, neglect, hunger, abuse at home or online, or a variety of additional critical social-emotional needs?

As this can be daunting and time consuming to manage, most schools only address these needs when it reaches a crisis level. Whether in an Excel document, a notebook, or a wall covered with Post-It notes, most educators struggle to effectively manage the variety of non-academic needs that students have.

How can you apply educational equity?

When students receive an equitable education, they are respected as a whole child inclusive of their identity and unique learning needs. This includes the non-academic challenges that a child may face. Not every student needs personal attention every day. But when a student disengages—perhaps because of a racist incidence, a scuffle with a bully, or stress because of issues at home—that student needs the support of the school.

Not all students show up with the same challenges, but an equitable school proactively provides individual interventions to each and every student based on need. This is fundamental safeguarding. How can you use technology to support student wellbeing?
